Let’s keep right on rolling through the upcoming season. With Summer 2015 ending I’m hoping to introduce a new format of reviews as well, so hopefully I’ll be done with Fall previews before the first show ends. Probably won’t happen, but I can dream. Now for the first show of this rundown…
Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan
Studio: Silver Link
Director: Oonuma, Shin
Yet another anime by the folks at Silver link this season. “A Chivalry of the Failed Knight” (English Title) is aparently an adaptation from a popular light novel series, so there is a bit of fanfare around it in the east. The studio (as I said before) will also be airing “Shomin Sample” so hopefully neither show suffers from a loss of budget. The director for this one directed “WataMote” and was the chief director for “Kokoro Connect”, so some ups and downs in that resume. The story of this show is thus:
The “school sword action” story revolves around Magic Knights, modern magic-users who fight with weapons converted from their souls. Ikki Kurogane goes to a school for these Magic Knights, but he is the “Failed Knight” or “Worst One” who is failing because he has no magical skills. However, one day, he is challenged to a duel by Stella, a foreign princess and the “Number One” student. In this duel, “the loser must be obedient for life.”
On first glance at the story it looks like it’ll be amusing if nothing else. It’s listed under action, fantasy, romance, and “school” and the pictures on the net make it seem that there’s more girls than guys. It’s probably a harem with action elements, but I could be wrong. This is another show that hasn’t been announced by any streaming site yet, so keep up with my social media pages to find out when I do!
Verdict: Apprehensive – It reminds me of “Sky Wizards Academy”, which was boring.
Director: Nakayama, Atsushi
“Comet Lucifer” is an original IP coming this fall. The PV only shows one character, but if the anime is as good looking as the music-video-like PV then I think we’re in for a treat. Studio 8bit is responsible for the “Infinite Stratos” anime last season and “The Fruit of Grasia” anime series. Nakayama-san has only ever directed “Absolute Duo”, so hopefully his luck can only go up from here. The plot of his newest venture is:
On the planet Gift there are precious crystals called Giftjium buried in the earth. A young man named Sōgo lives in Garden Indigo, a prosperous mining town. Sōgo’s hobby is to collect rare crystals. One day, he gets wrapped up in a riot caused by his classmates Kaon, Roman, and Otto, and he loses his way until he finds a lake deep under the ground’s mining ruins. There, he meets a mysterious girl with blue hair and red eyes that gaze straight ahead. The story follows the adventure of what happens after this meeting.
The story is a somewhat common occurrence in anime. Boy meets strange girl, strange girl’s mystery is unveiled one episode at a time, and we all laugh at strange girls ineptitude in polite society. This type of show can be interesting if done right, or incredibly boring if done wrong. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt though since it’s visually appealing. This is another show that hasn’t been picked up by a streaming service yet, so keep an eye out for it!
Verdict: Curious -Not sure if the story will match the visuals.
One Punch Man
Studio: Madhouse Studios
Director: Natsume, Shingo
This manga has been a long time coming to the anime world, especially with its large fan base. “One Punch Man” looks like an anime for fans of off-the-wall 80’s/90’s action movies and anime. It’s going to be ridiculously funny, and incredibly action-packed. Madhouse studios is a great production company with a wide range of successful anime from “Death Note” to “No Game No Life”. The chosen director (Natsume-san) was a director for “Space Dandy”, so he’s got experience with this kind of show. The plot for this show is:
One-Punch Man is a super hero who has trained so hard that his hair has fallen out, and who can overcome any enemy with one punch. However, because he is so strong, he has become bored and frustrated with winning all his battles so easily.
This action-comedy show will most likely be the mindless humor show of the season. The kind of show that won’t take too much brain power to watch, so you can just sit back and enjoy it. Still I’m looking forward to the fight scenes, and effects of this show. On a side note the main character kind of looks like a grown up Doug, and I gotta say Doug got REALLY into his Quail Man character if that’s the case. Joking aside I think this is going to be a very fun watch, and I don’t think I’m alone in that sentiment.
Verdict: Eager Anticipation
Three more shows for your viewing consideration! What will you be watching? Let me know if any of these strike your fancy here or on my various social media pages! Before I go a bit of bad news, I just saw via Crunchyroll’s Twitter that the last episode of “Ore Monogatari” (My Love Story) will be delayed. Sorry to drop that on you if you’re enjoying the show, but I thought some might want to know. Have a great weekend guys, and once again…
Arigatō my fellow BrOtaku!
